About Us

Hickory Nut Construction, Inc. and Hickory Nut Development Corp. provide a myriad of construction and development services. We have built many homes in the area, from small weekend log cabins to fantastic showplaces on the lake.

Our development division is extensively experienced with the ins and outs of purchasing and then developing larger properties in our area, whether for residential, commercial, or mixed use.

Our offices are located on Memorial Highway (Hwy. 64/74A) in Lake Lure, across from the Lake Lure Municipal Center. Along with a large team of craftspeople, we're led by:

Rick Coley, President
Rick has over 25 years of experience in the construction industry. After receiving a civil engineering degree from Princeton University, Rick worked in the real estate appraisal industry, gathering extensive experience in market studies and income analysis. Rick is a North Carolina general contractor with an unlimited license and has built numerous homes in Western North Carolina. His work also includes various commercial projects related to residential development such as clubhouses, model homes, gates and other amenities. As a resident of Rutherford County since 1988, Rick has developed strong relationships with many local and regional agencies involved with development, and was the President of the Hickory Nut Gorge Chamber of Commerce.

Luke Edwards, Chief Operating Officer
Luke has over 10 years of intensive project management experience, often coming in to development projects that are experiencing difficulties on a number of levels. Luke has a proven track record of working extensively with NCDENR, DWQ and other state and local agencies on behalf of owners to come up with workable solutions and approaches in land development. An experienced troubleshooter, Luke was the principle project manager for the 2006 HGTV Dream Home, a fast-tracked project built in the middle of Grey Rock at Lake Lure. Luke has an accounting degree from the University of Arkansas and, through his work with Biltmore Farms as a project manager, has developed a strong background in cost analysis, budget control and scheduling.
